A Scott County resident and part-time firefighter passed away on Saturday while fighting a wildfire near Garland Drive. The Virginia Department of Forestry identified the firefighter as James Ward. Afton Man Charged With Murder

A man from Afton has been charged with second-degree murder following an alleged shooting. Deputies found Clarence Devoti, 73, with a gunshot wound. EMS performed CPR, but Devoti died. Investigators identified William Harrison, 36, as the suspect and charged him with second-degree murder.
