Kingsport leaders have apprved a new ordinance that makes part of Broad Street an Historic Overlay District. Last Year, the Downtown Kingsport Association asked city leaders for the request in order to help preserve two blocks of historic buildings, some of which are nearly a century old. Funding could be made available to imporve the exterior facades of the buildings. The ordinance passed 5–1 with Vice Mayor Colette George voting against it.
