A Kingsport man has been arrested after police say he posed as a missing woman in an effort to defraud the woman’s family. 21 year old Michael David Thompson is jailed after police say he posed as Layla Santanello, who has been missing since last June. Police say Thompson sent several CashApp requests to Santanello’s family members in an effort to dupe them into giving him money. A grand jury has since indicted Thompson for aggravated identity theft and other financial crimes. There is no evidence that Thompson has been involved in the woman’s actual disappearance.
