With 37% of correctional officer positions at Northeast Correctional Center (NECX) in Mountain City vacant, an area state representative says the prison has a critical problem. Rep. Bud Hulsey (R-Kingsport) said of staff’s complaints about safety and huge amounts of overtime that they are legitimate. Hulsey said prison staffing shortages can create a host of risks – and they’ve been getting worse in Tennessee.
