It’s now known nearly 8,000 fish were killed following a sodium hydroxide spill at Shearer’s Foods in Bristol, Virginia, according to an estimate in a Virginia Department of Environmental Quality report.An estimated 7,915 fish were killed, according to the DEQ. The DEQ responded to the Shearer’s located at 225 Commonwealth Avenue Extension on June 28. The report stated that a forklift punctured a tote which contained a sodium hydroxide solution.
