The United States Geological Survey reported two earthquakes in our region happened within five hours of each other late Thursday and early Friday. The USGS reported the first earthquake happened 5.6 miles NNE of Richlands, Virginia at 10:54 p.m. The impact summary states it was a magnitude of 2.9 with a depth of 3.1 miles. Twenty-four people have reported feeling this quake.A second earthquake was reported in Unicoi County between Flagpond and Erwin at 3:27 a.m. That quake’s magnitude was 2.5 with a depth of 0.06 miles. So far, nearly six dozen people have reported feeling this quake.
