Johnson City Celebrates Emancipation Day

A community gathering over the weekend for Johnson City’s annual Emancipation Saturday. Tennesseee’s Emancipation Day is celebrated on August 8th each year. Organizers say the event is designed to support and learn about Emancipation Day, when slaves in Tennesseee learned they were free. The day featured live entertainment from Free Flow Band, Africa Live, Jeanine Fuller, and the True Funk Soldiers. There were also food trucks and local vendors.
