Bristol, VA, Considering Raising Some Taxes, But Lowering Trash Rates

The city of Bristol, Virginia, is considering raising the tax it charges for meals and hotel and motel rooms, while reducing the rate you pay for trash. The city council is being asked to approve a new ordinance to raise what’s called the transient toom rental tax from 13 to 15 percent. The purpose, the city syas, is to provide operational and capital resources for things like police and fire, education, health and welfare, streets, and parks and recreation. The tax on purchased meals would rise from 10 to 11 percent. At the same time, the monthly solid waste fee would go down from 48 dollars to 38 dollars.
