There is a new proposal floating around Sullivan COunty that would reduce the size of the county commission by nearly half. Right now, there are 24 commissioners, but a new plan floated during Thursday’s work session would eliminate 10 commissioners. Resolution sponsor Hunter Locke says he believes there are just too many commissions for the county’s population of less than 160-thousand. For comparison, he used Shelby County in the Memphis metro as an example, which has 13 commissioners and a population of almost a million people.
