Kingsport, has announced a replacement plan for residents with lead pipes following the EPA’s new law requiring identification of all drinking water utilities with lead service lines by October. The city is asking for community assistance to locate lead pipes, as digging holes on every service line would be costly and time-consuming. The city offers different methods to check pipes for lead, including using a screwdriver, placing a magnet on the line, or tapping the pipe with a coin.
