The Hawkins County School District has received a grant to help pay off school lunch debt. In all, nearly $17,000 will wipe out the debt for every single family in the district. The grant comes from the Arby’s Foundation. Director of Schools Matt Hixson says they are very grateful for the grant and are very humbled by being selected. Otherwise, he said, the district would have had to make up the debt with taxpayer funds from the general budget.
