Carter County has received its second consecutive poor audit from The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury, revealing material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, and noncompliance within the Office of the Finance Director. The audit included 10 findings, six of which were not corrected in the 2022 audit report. The county did not comply with its policy to develop a balanced budget for the 2023 fiscal year. County commissioners, the Financial Management Committee, and the Audit Committee are urged to exercise their authority for oversight and accountability.
