A Wise COunty jury has convicted James Dyer Buckland for the 2021 shooting of Norton police Chief James Lane. The jury deliberated only about 30 minutes after listening to two full days of evidence and testimony. Buckland was also convicted for the aggravated assault on then-Sergeant Jason McConnell. The judge ordered Buckland to return to court on january 9th for a sentencing hearing.
