Johnson City commissioners held a special meeting Thursday morning to vote on a second reading of the city’s first property tax increase since 2015.The city plans to increase its general fund budget by 6 percent and to do that, the city is proposing a 25-cent property tax hike.Commissioners say the increase is due to the rising cost of inflation. Mayor Todd Fowler says even with this increase, the city’s tax rate is still lower than Bristol or Kingsport.
