“Food storage non-compliance” is what it’s being called has resulted in a recommendation by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to close the Horse Creek Campground in the Unaka Ranger District until further notice, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service. The news release says “Bear encounters are increasing in Cherokee National Forest campgrounds risking visitor and bear safety.” Campers are reporting “dangerous bear encounters” on national forest campgrounds, primarily north of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
