The YMCA of Bristol is offering tips to better ensure water safety and to be sure you know the facts.Homeowners with swimming pools are encouraged to have fences, as experts say fences are the most effective and proven way to prevent the drowning of young children.According to the Centers for Disease Control, or CDC, drowning can happen even when kids are not expected to be near water — like when they gain unsupervised access to pools. Fatal drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4, and the second leading cause of unintentional death for children 5 to 14, behind vehicle crashes.
