One in five children in the region faces hunger, according to Feeding Southwest Virginia. And, nearly 19% of children in Northeast Tennessee are considered food insecure, says the Second Harvest Food Bank. Rhonda Chafin, executive director of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee, says families are feeling an extra hit to their wallet, as they work to provide additional meals to their children while schools are closed.
