Unclaimed Property

The Tennessee Department of Treasury’s Shelli King says right now, the state has more than $1.2 billion to be claimed. Unclaimed Property is a program within the Tennessee Dept. of Treasury. It holds onto money turned over by the state from businesses or organizations that couldn’t find to whom it belonged.“In the last fiscal year, the Treasury returned more than 50,000 pieces of unclaimed property, and that equated to about $57 million,” says King.
