Carter County Jail

A lack of funding is to blame for the Carter County Jail not passing inspection by the Tennessee Corrections Institute. The jail could also be decertified. The sheriff says the main reason for the failure was the lack of employees working within the jail. The jail requires a minimum of 10 corrections officers and as of today, there are three.Sherrif Dexter Lunceford says this problem has been building for years because the county commission will not increase his budget enough to pay competitive wages.
