Sullivan County Jail

County commissioners on Tuesday voted to spend millions in federal COVID-19 relief funds – specifically the American Recovery Plan Act – to invest in a new jail.Officials voted that $10 million will flow into the new jail funding after $80 million in issued bonds in 2021 left the county $13 million short. Sullivan County Mayor Richard Venable said leaders are confident that the remaining $3 million can be saved during the building process.
