Jury Awards $1.4M in Damages to Washington Co. Woman in Negligence Case

A slip and fall will cost an area apartment complex more than a half-million dollars.

A Washington County jury this awarded a woman $1.4 million in punitive damages after her apartment complex failed to clear their parking lot of snow and ice.

Back in February of 2015, Geneva Day and her son were walking to her car at the Beaver Hollow Apartments when she fell on snow and ice that had not been cleared away.

Day tore nearly all her knee ligaments in the accident. The owners of Beaver Hollow were not found to have acted “intentionally or recklessly.” Day is expected to get more than $638K in compensatory damages after she was found to be partially at fault.
