State of Tennessee Appoints Special Monitor to Oversee Ballad Health

The Tennessee Department of Health announced this week it has appointed someone as a Certificate of Public Advantage monitor to oversee Ballad Health.

The former Wellmont and Mountain States hospitals will be governed under a Certificate of Public Advantage- a system designed to protect the public from a de-facto monopoly caused the merger.

The state says Larry Fitzgerad will be evaluating the “continued public advantage of the COPA by monitoring Ballad Health’s compliance with the terms and conditions of the certification.”

His role begins June 1st.
