I’VE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH REPRESENTATIVE PHIL ROE’S OFFICE THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON AND I CAN CONFIRM BOTH ROE AND HIS WIFE CLARINDA WERE ON THE TRAIN. THEY WERE NOT INJURED IN THE CRASH, BUT ROE, WHO IS A DOCTOR, RENDERED AID TO THE INJURED — INCLUDING THE DRIVER OF THE GARBAGE HAULER. ROE WAS AMONG SEVERAL LAWMAKERS WHO TRIED TO RECUSCITATE THE MAN. HE WAS ULTIMATELY PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE.

Johnson City Man Arrested For Selling Drugs From Home

(JOHNSON CITY) — A man is investigation in connection with drug sales originating from his home.

Police say they received complaints that there was suspicious activity at Danny Slaton’s residence so that’s when the investigation was started.

During the investigation Slayton sold approximately an eighth of an ounce of cocaine to an individual working for police.

Authorities say Slayton was already in jail on unrelated charges so they served a warrant at the jail with a court date to be scheduled.

BVU Board Of Directors Considering Rate Hike

(BRISTOL, Va.) — BVU cable subscribers may soon be digging a little deeper into their pockets to pay their bills.

Last week the authority’s board of directors put forth a proposal to increase rates by 10 percent effective March 1.

According to the board the hike is needed to cover increased programming costs including fees paid to carry local channels.

The board will have a second vote on the hike and if approved it goes to the city council for hits approval.

Police Administer Narcan To Suspected Overdose Victim

(ROGERSVILLE) — Police revive a woman who was suspected of overdosing opiates with the use of the drug Narcan.

According to Rogersville Police an officer brought the woman to the Hawkins County Sheriff’s department where the woman was found to be unconscious.

The officer pulled the woman out of the patrol car and a sheriff’s deputy administered 8mg of Narcan nasal spray.

The woman was then hospitalized but there’s been no word on her condition.

No Charges Filed Against Walmart Shoplifting Suspect Shooter

(JOHNSON CITY) — Charges are not being filed against the man who opened fire on two shoplifting suspects last Friday at Walmart.

Prosecutors say John Jenkins was acting in self-defense when he fired on a SUV occupied by two men one of which rolled out a cart of merchandise from the W. Market St. store without paying.

According to police a man in the SUV pulled a gun on Jenkins and that’s when he went for his weapon.

Jenkins had a permit to carry the gun.

Man Extradited From Florida To Face Auto Theft Charges In Morristown

(MORRISTOWN) — A man who stole a car last month then fled to Florida made a first court appearance here in Tuesday.

Police say Daniel Samson stole the vehicle on Dec. 5 and crashed the vehicle in the Winter Haven, Fla. area where the vehicle was crashed.

According to authorities Samson evaded arrest for a time but was eventually taken into custody and extradited to Morristown.

Samson was jailed on $50,000 bond.

Surgoinsville Woman Takes Plea Deal On Drug Selling Charges

(ROGERSVILLE) — A Hawkins County woman takes a plea deal on drug distribution charges.

Prosecutors say Donna Strong sold crystal methamphatamine to a federal information on two occasions in January 2017 from her Surgoinsville home.

According to court records she took a plea to reduced charges cutting her minimum sentence from 10 to five years but she is expected to receive more time because of a drug-selling conviction in 2010.

Fatal Wreck Involves Lawmakers

(CROZET) – A train carrying members of Congress to a legislative retreat in West Virginia collides with a truck just outside Charlottesville…Jim O’Reilly…

One person died in the accident and one person was seriously injured. Amtrak issued a statement saying the train came in contact with a vehicle that was on the tracks in Crozet. There are no reported injuries to passengers or crew members on board the train.
