Early Voting Turnout in Kingsport’s Election Light So Far

The turnout so far for Kingsport’s upcoming election hasn’t been stellar. Livewire’s Adam Chappelle explains.

Kingsport has an election coming up on May 16…although judging by the early voting tallies, either no one knows or seems to care. Early voting for that election began on Wednesday. The Kingsport Times-News reports as of Friday evening, only 15 people had cast early ballots in Kingsport’s election. Perhaps one reason for the thus-far abysmal turnout has been that only one early voting site- the Sullivan County Election Office in Blountville- has been open. Early voting sites will open in Bristol at the National Guard Armory for their municipal election and the Civic Auditorium in Kingsport this Thursday. Early voting will then continue at all three early voting locations through May 11.

Northam, Perriello Square Off In First Va. Gov. Debate

Perriello has been endorsed by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren. Northam has been endorsed by Gov. Terry McAuliffe and the Virginia’s two Democratic senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine.

Saturday night’s debate in Fairfax was their first leading into the June primary.

Record Highs Turn to Possible Record Lows This Week

BRISTOL, Tenn.- We’re finally getting a break from this near-record heat.

Temperatures will be as much as 20 degrees cooler Monday in some spots as a cold front moves through. We’ll top out in the 70s, then cool down even more after showers and storms push through around lunchtime. Those storms aren’t expected to strengthen to severe limits, although gusty winds are expected. Flooding is not expected with the storms, either.

Highs will return closer to average, then turn cooler as the week goes on. After temps this weekend were nearly 20 degrees above normal…by Friday, we could see temperatures nearly 20 degrees BELOW normal.
