GOP Candidates For Sullivan Co. Sheriffs Hold Debate

(SULLIVAN COUNTY) The three Republican candidates running for Sullivan County Sheriff got together Tuesday night for their first debate of this election season.

Wayne Anderson, who has been sheriff now for 20 years, is running against Joe Earles and Matt Austin. Both men said they apppreciated Anderson’s work and his dedication to the community, but after two decades, said it was time for a change.

The main topic on which the three differed was how to tackle the ongoing opioid epidemic. While Anderson said a partnership with the DA’s office would mean “a lot more arrests,” the other two candidates suggested involving the community and educating students about the issue.
