Local Police Staffing Up For DUI Patrols on New Year’s Eve

(JOHNSON CITY) Police across the Tri-Cities are stepping up patrols and DUI checkpoints tonight and tomorrow.

Officials with the Carter County Sheriffs Office told NewsChannel 11 they’re bringing in extra deputies to patrol and keep an eye out for erratic driving. Johnson City Police also told the station that they’re staffing up for New Year’s Eve.

But Johnson City Captain Brian Rice said in this day and age with services like Uber and Lyft, plus cabs and AAA’s Tow to Go, there’s no reason anyone should be getting behind the wheel if they’ve had a bit too much to drink.
