Niswonger Gets Donation For Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Program

(JOHNSON CITY) — Niswonger Children’s Hospital is receiving a $100,000 donation for its work to help babies born by mothers with a drug addiction.

The Herald Courier reports Mike and Nancy Christian of Johnson City made the donation which will help create a program allowing the babies to stay with their mother who will get shelter, food and other treatment.

Neonatal abstinence syndrome occurs when babies are exposed to addictive drugs while in the womb and the baby’s digestive and nervous systems are affected after birth from drug withdrawal.
