New Speed Limit Signs on I-26 Installed

(JOHNSON CITY) — Road crews finish installing new speed limit signs along Interestate 26.

The new speed limits took effect Monday. Officials say the changes are meant to make speeds more consistent along the highway between Carter County and the Virginia state line.

The non-truck speed limit is now 65 miles-per-hour except between Exit 17 and the Washington/Carter county line, where the limit drops to 60.

Trucks have a 55 miles-per-hour limit along the entire span.
