Federal Anti-Drug Funding Lands in Tri-Cities

(BLOUNTVILLE) — Federal funding helps fight the opioid epidemic in northeast Tennessee.

The Sullivan County Anti-Drug Coalition has been awarded $133,000 to prevent abuse of opioids, heroin, and other addictive drugs and to pay for recovery drugs and treatments.

The money comes from the 21st Century Cures Act, which was signed into law in December of last year and provides $1 billion in funding nationwide.

The first expenditures involve getting the anti-overdose drug Narcan into the hands of police and other first responders.
