Man Arrested For Using Fake Money At Restaurant

JOHNSON CITY — A man is arrested on suspicion he passed fake currency at a fast food restaurant.

Police say an investigation revealed Andrew Rowe of Telford, Tenn. used three fake $20 bills last week at Taco Bell on W. Market Street.

Rowe was taken into custody Tuesday morning and jailed on $30,000 bond pending his first court appearance.

Sobriety Checkpoints In Hawkins County

ROGERSVILLE — Police will be conducting sobreity checkpoint patrols in Hawkins County during the week of Mar. 17.

According to the Review the Tennessee Highway Patrol will be operating the checkpoints on State Route 66 but exact times for checkpoint operation weren’t disclosed.

Police will also be taking corrective acions for other violations such as making sure drivers have valid licenses along with checking for current tags and proof of insurance.

Vickie Ringley, the Hawkins County woman, who was convicted on forgery, money laundering and theft charges, got a plea deal after agreeing to pay 500 dollars a month in restitution. During her proceedings nearly three years ago, Ringley admitted as the owner of the Hawkins County Memorial Gardens cemetery, to pocketing around 60 thousand dollars in customers’ money.

Woman Faces Murder Charges

ERWIN, TN –A Unicoi County woman was arrested and charged in a Monday morning stabbing incident.

Sheriff Mike Hensley says that Ricky Price told him that his live in girl friend stabbed him. Price was transported to the hospital where he later died of his injuries. His body will now be sent for an autopsy.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed that 29- year old Ricina Patrick was charged with first degree murder and taken to the Unicoi County jail, where she is being held on a 500-thousand dollar bond.

Voters Get Their Way in Tusculum

TUSCULUM, TN — The Tusculum Board of Mayor & Commissioners approved conditions where liquor by the drink can be sold for on premise consumption.

The ordinance passed second reading Monday night and the municipal code was amended to establish the new liquor regulations. Only one package store for each 3-thousand residents will be allowed and there will be a 250- dollar application fee. To apply, the owner must have been a resident of Tennessee for at least two years.

Voters passed the liquor by the drink ordinance in November.

GREENEVILLE, TN — The Greene County Education Committee layed out their School System Improvement Plan on Monday.

They considered ways to keep students in the system who may otherwise become homeschool candidates. The ten year plan will affect sixth graders mostly, helping them improve their ACT scores, while offering a Kindergarten Readiness assessment program.

Before children enter Kindergarten it will be determined if they are ready first. To do this they can attend what will be called the Summer K Jump Start, which is a two week program to help prepare the child for school.

Go to Redcross.org and click on RapidPass to complete your pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire. By doing this prior to the blood drive you can breeze right through with no delays.

The Marsh Regional Blood Center has a blood drive scheduled for Wednesday from 8 to 11 at the Community Health Center in Johnson City, from 9 till 4 at ETSU and noon till 5 at Mountain Home. On Friday go to Sullivan East High School between 7:30 and 1:30.

Blood Assurance Regional Blood Center has blood drives on Wednesday in Johnson City at North Side Elementary School from 9 till 4, Thursday morning at Mullican Flooring from 5:30 till 11 then Friday from 9 till 3 at Little Milligan Elementary School in Butler.
